Current Cherwell District Councillor and Banbury’s Deputy Mayor Surinder Dhesi, remembers Wendy fondly.

“It is very sad to hear about the loss of former Banbury Town, Cherwell District and Oxfordshire County Councillor Wendy Humphries she was a stalwart Labour Councillor who served her Community of Ruscote Ward. She was a former chairman of Cherwell District Council and Mayor of Banbury.

When I got elected over 25 years ago Wendy and Tony Humphries, who was also a Town, District Councillor taught me all I know now.

Wendy had true grit and even though she had health problems she soldiered on. She looked after her mother and was very proud of her family especially her grandchildren.

I will miss her great personality, she was a great Labour Councillor”

Wendy Humphries served as a district councillor in Cherwell from 1988 to 2000, representing the Banbury Ruscote ward. She was chairman of the council during the municipal years 1997 to 1998 and 1998 to 1999 and vice chairman during 1995 to 1996, 1996 to 1997, and 1999 to 2000.

Wendy, along with her husband Tony, spent over 20 years as part of the Labour party in Banbury, before leaving the party to run as an ‘Independent Socialists’ in 2001.
