Councillor for Banbury Ruscote

Amanda Watkins - Councillor for Banbury Ruscote

The day I was elected District Councillor for Banbury Ruscote Ward was one of my proudest moments and I will always endeavour to carry out my duties to the very best of my ability. Working in conjunction with the rest of the team of Labour Councillors, my priority will always be what is best for my Ward and indeed the town of Banbury.

I moved to Cherwell 25 years ago, with my husband and two children, so I know what a great place it is. However, I want to help to make it even better for everyone. This can be achieved by all of us working together and taking pride in our Community.

I have a strong sense of fair play, with inherent values from my background and upbringing in Port Talbot, an industrial steel town roughly the same size as Banbury. I recognise the importance of balancing the sensible protection of our countryside and heritage with that of necessary development – and I am well aware of the need for far more social housing. I believe in having protection and support for working people alongside support for those unable to help themselves.

I have several years of Trade Union experience, from being a NASUWT school representative, an Executive member of the NASUWT Oxford Federation and currently an Accredited Caseworker for the NASUWT. A Science teacher by profession, I have now retired to focus on local affairs, in particular my role as District Councillor.

Please be assured that I will always stand up for the issues that matter to you.
